Kılıçdaroğlu’s former ally to field candidates in Türkiye’s all cities for 2024 local elections

Türkiye’s opposition Good (IYI) Party will field its candidates in all 81 provinces in the 2024 local elections.

The elections are set to occur on March 31 next year.

“We will appear before our beloved nation with our candidates in 81 provinces in the local elections,” said the party’s leader Meral Akşener during her speech at the party’s parliamentary group.

Akşener supported CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu’s candidacy against incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the presidential elections held in May. But Kılıçdaroğlu failed to unseat Erdoğan and sparked criticism against his leadership inside the main opposition CHP.

“As we tread this path, we anticipate challenges from all directions, but we will seek solace in the embrace of our people,” stated Akşener.

In the 2019 mayoral elections, Meral Akşener and her Good Party endorsed the main opposition CHP’s candidates, Ekrem Imamoğlu in Istanbul and Mansur Yavaş in Ankara.

Imamoğlu and Yavaş will once again attend the upcoming elections.

Declining to form any alliances, unlike in the previous presidential elections where she joined forces with five parties, Akşener added, “We will rely on our own merits, judged by the nation’s standards.”
