Coronavirus vaccine to be brought to Turkey on Wednesday

1st batch of coronavirus vaccines from China will be brought to Istanbul Airport on Wednesday, Turkish Airlines says.

The first of the 3 million doses will reach Turkey via the flight from Beijing to Istanbul.

The vaccines are planned to be sent to Ankara on another flight, Turkey’s national flag carrier said.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told a press conference yesterday that Turkey would receive the first batch of coronavirus vaccines developed by China’s Sinovac this week.

VACCINE AGREEMENT

Turkey has agreed to buy 50 million doses of Sinovac’s CoronaVac and had expected delivery by Dec. 11, but the shipment has faced delays.

VACCINE STUDIES IN TURKEY

Erdogan said Turkey had worked on eight different vaccines, and that one of these studies had started the final phase.

Sinovac is seeking to consolidate data from global trials that include Indonesia, Chile, Turkey and Brazil. Brazil has reported the vaccine’s efficacy at between 50% and 90%.
