Efforts of rebuilding homes in quake-hit cities launched

President will attend groundbreaking ceremony

The construction process of 46,327 houses in the quake-hit 11 cities has started on Wednesday, said Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister.

Murat Kurum said they would simultaneously lay foundations in the cities affected by the tremors centered in Kahramanmaras on Feb 6. He said that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan would attend the groundbreaking ceremony.

“The contracts made in 11 provinces have reached 46,327. We have started the work on the field, said Kurum, speaking to journalists in the Nurdagi district of Gaziantep, one of the places the earthquake struck.

Stating that they were in great sadness at the first moment of the earthquake, Kurum said that they continued the process in which 85 million people struggled for earthquake zones in mourning, with the same understanding.

In two or three months, the construction of a total of 319,000 homes in 11 provinces will begin.

The death toll in the quake disaster exceeded 50,000, according to the Emergency and Disaster Management Presidency (AFAD).
