Greek experts try underestimate Turkey’s discovery

Turkey’s drill ship Fatih found some 320 billion cubic meters (11.3 trillion cubic feet) of natural gas on July 20. According to the official information, the discovered gas will be supplied to public use in 2023.

Turkey’s new discovery caused panic among the neighboring countries that have ambitions in the region.

“IT IS NOT CLEAR WHETHER TURKEY IS ALLOWED TO DRILL IN THE BLACK SEA”

Greek energy expert, Ilias Tsagas of Greenwich University in London, trying to underestimate Turkey’s achievement, said that Turkey was not free to decide on the drilling in the Black Sea.

Speaking to the Germany’s Die Welt, Tsagas said that he would rather trust a large company than a dodgy politician.

“Natural gas occurs in many areas around the world, but it is often very deep in the ground, which makes production extremely make expensive. So in order to make money with the new gas field, Turkey first has to take some into the hand. In addition, it is not at all clear whether Turkey is allowed to drill in the Black Sea at all. Neighboring countries such as Romania, Bulgaria, and above all Russia should want to have a say.” Tsagas added.
