Muslims in Türkiye observe holy night of Barat

The head of Religious Affairs Directorate brings those affected by tremors to mind.

The Muslim holy night of Barat, regarded as the night of forgiveness and salvation, was observed across Türkiye on Monday night.

Lailat al Barat is celebrated on the 15th night of Sha’ban, the eighth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

Ali Erbas, head of Turkey’s Religious Affairs Directorate, issued a message on his social media account Twitter marking Lailat al-Barat.

“I congratulate our beloved nation and the entire Islamic world on the Night of Berat, and I pray to our Almighty Lord that with His power and generosity, he will comfort the sad hearts, heal the wounded hearts, and make our difficulties easy with his mercy and benevolence”, said Erbas referring to the people living in the quake-hit areas in the country.

The Night of Barat is also known as a time that brings the glad tidings of the approaching advent of Ramadan, the blessed month of fasting during which Muslims abstain from food and drink and marital relations from predawn to sunset.
