Stray dogs in Istanbul to be spayed

They are one of causes of death

Istanbul Governorship asked local authorities in the city for spaying stray dogs.

An instruction was sent to district governorships, municipalities as well as agriculture and forestry directorates to take stray animals including dogs to rehabilitation centers.

Stray animals will be spayed, treated

The animals will be spayed and treated and will be returned to the place where they were taken under the application of the Animal Protection Law.

Stray dogs across Turkish cities make the headlines as they are considered one of the causes of death in the country.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said previously stray animals belong to shelters, not streets.

He said shelters should be built for the animals in question, hailing initiatives taken by Konya ve Istanbul’s Beykoz municipalities in this regard.

Many municipalities, however, are accused of not fulfilling their duties on the issue while especially children’s life safety is at risk.
