It says Türkiye has a larger population than Germany

Germany-based news magazine wrote if Türkiye joins the European Union (EU), the organization could become a global power factor.

Spiegel analyzed the possibility of Ankara’s candidacy, along with Ukraine, which has been under deadly attacks by Russia since February last year.

If both countries become members, the EU will grow by one-third in terms of land, it said.

“Thus, Europe can turn to be a global power, an important actor on the world stage,” said the news body.

The article pointed out that the EU may have two more large member states together with some small candidate countries in the Balkans within 10 years.

Türkiye’s population is larger than Germany’s

“Türkiye has a larger population than Germany and continues to grow demographically very dynamically,” it emphasized. “Türkiye also has a geography that is about twice the size of Germany in terms of land. Ukraine occupies a larger land area than France, the largest EU country in terms of area, with a relatively sparse population distribution.”

Spiegel also emphasized Türkiye’s young population, saying its continuation is expected for a long period of time.

Populations are aging in the EU countries

“In today’s EU countries, we are faced with serious demographic problems. Populations are aging and in many places, the number of people of working age is falling,” it added.
