The expected meeting between Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will happen soon, according to a Kremlin spokesperson.
“The meeting (with Erdoğan) will take place soon, and we will inform you about it in a timely manner,” Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
In early August, Erdoğan had a telephone conversation with Putin.
Grain deal
Russia withdrew from the Black Sea Grain Initiative, signed in Istanbul, due to unmet conditions. During the conversation, Erdoğan conveyed Türkiye’s commitment to ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at preserving the grain corridor.
Peskov announced that Russian President Putin is planning an international trip in the upcoming autumn, according to Interfax.
The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for the Russian President and Russia’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights, Maria Alekseyevna Lvova-Belova, in connection with the forced deportation of children from Ukraine to Russia.
Answering a question regarding the issue, Peskov added, “There are plans. They are planning in the fall. We will also inform you about this in due time.”
The Kremlin representative refrained from commenting on the potential visit of Erdoğan to Russia.
“There are specific agreements regarding the annouıncement dates, and we intend to honor these agreements,” he stated.
Turkish FM is planing to visit Moscow
Previously, Russian news agency TASS reported that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is planning a trip to Russia to meet with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov to discuss the interrupted grain deal.
Citing an uınnamed diplomatic source, the media outlet said, “Ankara believes that the grain corridor proved functional and effective, and there is no alternative to it. Talks are currently underway with the United Nations, Russia and Ukraine at various levels.”
“The prospects for an Istanbul meeting will be clearer after the Turkish foreign minister’s talks in Moscow,” the source stated.
