Turkey suspends flights from UK over new coronavirus strain

Turkish Airlines announced on Saturday that flights from the UK to Turkey were suspended under travel restrictions due to the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the flights from Turkey to the UK, and from the UK to other countries, including the transit flights, continue as planned, it noted.

MUTATED VIRUS FOUND IN 15 PEOPLE

On Friday, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said the new virus strain was detected in 15 people who entered the country from the UK, and announced that entries from the UK to Turkey were temporarily suspended.

Turkey on Friday reported 12,203 more infections and 212 new fatalities from the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours.

The number of patients in critical condition dropped to 3,891, the latest figures showed.

“I believe the destructive effect of the pandemic will decrease,” Koca said.
