Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT) conducted a cross-border operation in northern Syria, resulting in the elimination of a senior PKK/YPG terrorist, according to security sources.

The operation was aimed at Muhtesim Akyürek, who was known by the codename Serhat Serhildan, and it took place in the Amude region, said the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to media restrictions.

The intelligence agency closely followed the terrorist, who was responsible for training activities in the region.

Akyürek, who joined the rural structure of the terror group in 2015, received ideological and armed training.

Turkish authorities use the term “neutralize” to imply the terrorists in question surrendered or were killed or captured.

The PKK, designated as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the US, and the EU, has been responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 people in its over 35-year-long campaign of terror.

This toll includes men, women, children, and even infants. The YPG is recognized as the Syrian offshoot of the PKK.
