UK to roll out Pfizer/German-Turkish BioNTech vaccine next week

The UK has become the first country allowing the use of Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine on public after the country’s regulator approved it on Wednesday.

The vaccine, which provides 95% protection against coronavirus, will be rolled out as early as next week, according to a government statement.

BRITISH GOVERNMENT ACCEPTED THE RECOMMENDATION

“The government has today accepted the recommendation from the independent Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to approve Pfizer-BioNTech’s coronavirus vaccine for use,” it said. “The vaccine will be made available across the UK from next week.”

Turkish-born Ugur Sahin is CEO of German biotech firm BioNTech. He co-founded it with his wife and fellow board member Özlem Türeci.

BioNTech, which Dr. Ugur Sahin and his wife, Dr. Ozlem Tureci, founded in 2008, managed to develop an experimental vaccine together with its American partner Pfizer .
