European Union industrial production down

The EU’s industrial production fell by 0.1 percent in March on a monthly basis, the European statistical authority announced on Tuesday.

Eurostat said the seasonally-adjusted industrial production index was 106.6 in March, compared to 106.7 in the previous month.

It noted: “In the EU28, production of non-durable consumer goods fell by 0.5 percent and energy by 0.2 percent, while production of intermediate goods remained unchanged, capital goods rose by 0.4 percent and durable consumer goods by 0.5 percent.”

Malta recorded the highest decrease with 3.7 percent in the month among member states, following by Greece (2.7 percent), and Sweden (2.3 percent).

“The highest increases were observed in Lithuania (3.5 percent), Denmark (1.8 percent) and Slovakia (1.2 perecent),” Eurostat said.
