Finance minister Şimşek to meet international investors at JP Morgan’s event

Head of central bank will also attend meeting

Türkiye’s minister of treasury and finance will come together with international investors in a meeting on Friday.

Mehmet Şimşek will attend the meeting organized by JP Morgan as part of the closed-door Türkiye Economic Forum.

He will present on the Turkish economy and meet investor groups separately.

Şimşek will also gather with representatives of BlackRock, JP Morgan, Singapore’s wealth fund, and Franklin Templeton.

The governor of the Turkish Central Bank, Hafize Gaye Erkan, will also participate in the event and make a presentation.

Meanwhile, Şimşek said on X, previously known as Twitter, that inflation figures were in line with market expectations, referring to the consumer price index for July that was announced as 47.8% by TurkStat.

Transition period

“We are in a transition period where disinflation and price stability are targeted,” Şimşek said, adding that annual inflation will begin to decline from the midst of 2024 thanks to the positive impact of the monetary policy.

The minister said they would support the disinflation process with fiscal discipline.

“The main objective of our policies is to permanently reduce inflation to single digits in the medium term,” he added.
