Türkiye, Egypt aim to reach bilateral trade of $15B

Two countries fixing deteriorated ties

Türkiye and Egypt, who appointed ambassadors to each other’s capitals last month, are striving to reach a bilateral trade level of $15 billion within five years, the Turkish trade ministry said on Tuesday.

Egyptian Trade and Industry Minister Ahmed Samir Saleh arrived in Ankara at the invitation of his Turkish counterpart Ömer Bolat on a two-day visit, and the countries reached a mutual agreement for a road map to strengthen trade relations.

The agreement also included supporting bilateral investments to ease conditions for investors, the ministry said, adding business events will be organized in the coming period.

Saleh’s visit to Türkiye marks the first visit at the level of trade ministers in 10 years. The bilateral trade volume is currently around $10 billion.

Diplomatic relations between Ankara and Cairo have been maintained at the level of charge d’affaires since 2013.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Samih Shukri became the first Egyptian minister to visit the country since 2013 on February 27, following the devastating earthquakes that happened on February 6 and hit Türkiye’s southern cities.
