A magnitude 4.8 earthquake has hit northwest Türkiye, according to the nation’s disaster management agency.
The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said Thursday’s earthquake struck Bolu province afternoon, a city that is about 260 kilometers east of Istanbul.
It was measured at a depth of 8.13 kilometers, according to AFAD.
There are no reports of casualties or major damage so far. The quake was also felt in Istanbul, Türkiye’s most populated city, and the capital Ankara.
“There have been no negative reports so far,” said the Governorship of Bolu. “Scanning in the field continues.”

People who felt the tremor in Bolu fled their homes to wait under rainy weather. The city is located on the 1200-km-long North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ).
After two powerful tremors happened in Kahramanmaras on Feb 6, seismologists warn that a magnitude 7.0 or higher earthquake is expected in Istanbul.
In 1999, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck Kocaeli province, also known as Izmit, causing more than 17,000 death.
