Türkiye’s most populous city is expected to see the highest temperature this week, warned a meteorology engineer.

The temperature will soar to 35 degrees on Wednesday and 39 degrees on Thursday in Istanbul, according to Adil Tek, who leads Boğaziçi University’s Kandilli Observatory.

The country is getting ready to embrace a heatwave coming from North Africa. Temperatures will gradually rise from today, he said.

“Temperature in Istanbul will peak on Thursday,” said Tek. “We expect a rise of about 8 degrees between today and Thursday. The temperature will gradually begin to decrease before the end of the week. We expect the heat wave to be effective in Istanbul for four days.”

No rain is in sight in the city after the heatwave because the temperature will not drop immediately, explained the engineer, reminding, “We have previously recorded the highest temperature in Istanbul as 41.3 degrees. The next day, the temperature dropped by 12 degrees. This caused precipitation. But this time, there is no such thing.”

He warned Istanbulites to be careful against extreme heat.

“They should not be exposed to sunlight between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm. Those who go out should prefer light-colored clothes,” he added.

The meteorology engineer also said protein foods should be avoided while plenty of water should be consumed.
